Design: Based on the rules and characteristics of volleyball matches, design the size, weight, color, surface material, etc. of the volleyball. The design of volleyball emphasizes its flight stability and hand feel.
Material selection:
Outer skin: Generally, synthetic leather or natural leather is used. Synthetic leather has good wear resistance, waterproofness, and economy, while natural leather has a better hand feel. The outer surface usually has a certain texture to increase the friction when hitting the ball.
Inner liner: Butyl rubber inner liner is usually used to ensure the airtightness and elasticity of the volleyball.
Suture: Use high-strength polyester or nylon thread to sew the outer skin.
Cutting: Cut the selected outer skin material according to the designed template. The volleyball outer skin is generally composed of 18 or 20 pieces of skin, and the shape is mostly rectangular or trapezoidal.
Printing: Printing brand logos, patterns, and other information on cut leather sheets.
Inner liner production: Similar to the inner liner production process of football and basketball, the butyl rubber material is mixed, vulcanized and other processes to make the inner liner, and the valve is installed.
Stitching: The cut leather pieces are sewn together using a sewing machine or by hand to form the outer shell of the volleyball. When sewing, attention should be paid to the quality and density of the stitches to ensure the sealing and durability of the ball.
Assembly of inner container and outer shell: Place the made inner container into the outer shell of the volleyball, and then sew and seal the opening.
Inflation test: Inflate the assembled volleyball to check if its air pressure meets the standard requirements, and conduct a visual inspection to check for any air leaks, loose leather stitching, or other issues.
Quality inspection: Conduct quality inspection on volleyball according to the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) or other relevant standards, including testing of appearance, size, weight, elasticity, roundness and other indicators.
Packaging and storage: Qualified volleyball balls are packaged, usually in paper boxes or plastic bags, and then stored in the warehouse.
